Ebook About It took Lawrence Bransby and his son, Gareth, three journeys into Central Asia before they were able to ride the legendary Bartang Pass. But it's another pass that becomes the focus of this story - Matts Pass in southern Tajikistan, and a motorcycle abandoned deep in the Pamir Mountains after father and son push the limits of their bodies and bikes just one step too far. These two have travelled on motorcycles across four continents over the years - Africa, Asia, Russia and Europe - and shared many adventures together. But this trip turned out to be somewhat different. Never before - across Africa, into the Russian taigia or the Western Sahara - have they had to abandon a bike and walk out..."A Pass too Far" is the story of their second and third journeys into Central Asia. (The account of the first can be found in "The Wakhan Corridor".)Award-winning author Lawrence Bransby has become well known for his adventure motorcycle travelogues, the many articles published in motorcycle travel magazines and the illustrated talks he has given at the Overland Magazine adventure bike events. If you have enjoyed "There are no Fat People in Morocco", "Venture in Russia", "The Wakhan Corridor" or "By Motorcycle Through Vietnam", you will love this book.Book A Pass Too Far: Travels in Central Asia Review :
I have read most if not all of Lawrence's Travel Adventures I have never been disappointed. On this, his latest ride into Central Asia with his son I felt I was riding with them all the way. Even without the photographs set amongst the text I could close my eyes and just visualise the area. Lawrence's writing and especially his descriptive skills are mingled with humour even in the face of adversity. I haven't ridden a motorcycle since the early 1980's but a number of times in-between reading this book I found myself browsing the web adverts thinking maybe I was still young enough to buy another and go off on some scenic adventure or other. Being a long term 4x4 driver I finally decided that being a tad older than Lawrence that common sense should dictate that maybe that was wishful thinking and that I should stick to four wheels instead. I may not be going as far as Lawrence and Gareth but at least this latest book has inspired me to start planning a few trips of my own to the Pyrenees, Picos de Europe and maybe the Alps for the next couple of years. That's what a good Adventure book does. This one does it extremely well. I look forward to his next one. Thanks Lawrence & Gareth. Paul Sinkinson, Ageing Author of - The Frenchman's Daughters & The President's Legionnaire. (ps: If my own 4wd Trips get off the starting block before I need a Zimmer Frame maybe I will have a go at writing about them :) ) Except and quick read. I so wanna now go on this adventure Thanks for giving me a dream.
